JOB OPPORTUNITY: Quality Control Botany Technician – Vitality Works (Albequerque, NM)

We are diversified and strong in the herbal, nutraceutical, natural products and health professional industries. We are seeking an experienced and motivated QC Botany Technician. Vitality Works is a NSF GMP certified, KOF-K kosher certified, Organic certified and FDA registered manufacturing facility. Vitality Works manufactures a huge variety of products specializing in herbal products.
Job Summary:
Responsible for assessing product quality attributes including identity, purity and strength of botanical raw materials of received and manufactured herbal products in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for herbal raw material identification in a high throughput production environment.
Accountable for evaluating, and releasing or rejecting raw herb, as well as, dry and liquid raw herbal components, and updating appropriate databases.
Develop and maintain detailed specification sheets for each herbal raw material according to 21 CFR 111, including establishing appropriate testing with internal and 3rd party labs.
Develop reference material validation processes.
Assist and/or manage bringing in new testing equipment related to botanical evaluation and developing corresponding SOP’s.
Manage library of reference standards for HPTLC, preparing extractions and running analyses.
Develop a process for assessing the defining characteristics of herbs.
Responsible for investigating non-conforming products and disposition.
Investigate pertinent customer complaints and submit findings to QC/QA manager.
Work with purchasing and QA manager in developing supplier qualification programs for herb raw materials.
Staying abreast of regulatory changes related to the industry.
Other duties as assigned by the QC manager or Supervisor.
Skills:
Strong plant taxonomy foundation
Strong microscopy/macroscopy experience with plant identification
Sensory experience as related to plants
Knowledge of common herbal adulterants
Experience with HPTLC and creating SOP’s for HPTLC botanical ID. Other analytical testing expertise a plus.
Ability to work quickly and accurately in a production environment
Good verbal and written communication skills
Computer literate in MS office
Requirements:
Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Botany
Minimum three years experience with botanical ID/taxonomy in outdoor or laboratory setting
Minimum three years in a GMP industrial environment desired
Minimum three years manufacturing experience in Dietary Supplement Industry desired
